Power Outage and Saints Smashing

Well, due to some yahoo in Arizona I did not get to watch the very first game of the regular season.  I was very sad to miss it, but I did not cry like Aidan did.  I was so proud of him at that moment and knew I was doing a good job as a parent by raising yet another rabid football fan.  Now that the power is back on I have had time to read up on yesterdays game and I gotta tell you that all the bloggers and so called football analysts need to get their heads out of Aaron Rodgers ass.

Seriously, one game into the season and they are proclaiming Rodgers to be "the best QB in the game".  Maybe you should see how others perform before making such a out there comment.  When Rivers crushes the Vikings I am sure they will be saying the same thing, but the Rodgers proclamations are over zealous.  Make these kind of statements in week 8, not now.

Ok, now that I'm done ranting on that I will have to say that the Packs offense did certainly show up with Rodgers completing to nine different receivers.  I will give him an "impressive" on that.   Randall Cobb is certainly the real deal and I wouldn't mind having him in FF.  He is explosive and smart.  Damn, why isn't he a Charger?

Speaking of the Chargers, Sproles made some great plays for NO.  He was an awesome Charger, so I knew he would do great there and Brees made good use of his newest veteran.  Sproles even got a 72 yard punt return for a TD.  Giddieup!

Saints blew it in the red zone, but all in all performed well, just not good enough.

Just like Christmas!

Today is a day that football fans across the world can't wait to happen.  There are count downs, parties, beers and so so many types of food.

Finally, the first day of football has arrived.  We have all awoken with smiles on our faces and thoughts of touchdowns and snack foods in our heads.  For most of us, we do not care that our favorite team is not playing today, it's just the simple fact that regular season football is on.  With the sweat, tears and victories of other teams we will be happy.  If it just so happens that you are rooting for the Saints (Kele) or the Packers, then happy first day of the season to you!  I'll be sharing that special kind of joy on Sunday when my Chargers crush the Vikings.  Crush I tell you!  Ahhh, let the taunting begin.

Let there be football.  :-)

Shocker out of JX - Garrard released!

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Jacksonville Jaguars released veteran quarterback David Garrard on Tuesday, a stunning move that will save the franchise $9 million this season.
Whether it saves coach Jack Del Rio's job remains to be seen. Team owner Wayne Weaver has said Jacksonville needs to make the playoffs for Del Rio to stick around for a 10th season (I guess that means he should start packing). Del Rio made it clear late last season that he had grown tired of Garrard's inconsistent ways, but the coach remained steadfast through training camp and the preseason that Garrard was his starter.
Not sure what Garrard did to get cut, but wow!

Ahhh, regular season is finally here!

How exciting!  Two days from real football.  The real hits, run and passes that make us hold our breath, scream and spew expletives.  I cannot wait.  :)

This seasons opening game.  Brees vs. Rodgers.... or,  Saints vs. Packers for a Thursday Nite matchup.   These two Super Bowl winning teams promise enough excitement to cause you to have some Bayer aspirin on hand.  I can't wait!

FYI - I must root for the Saints.  Brees was a Charger first, so I will always hope he wins (unless he is playing the Chargers, of course).  Plus, we all like it when Kele is happy.  So geaux Saints!

Big shout out to Manny ~ Happy Birthday Dude!

Chargers lose Tolzien to Niners! Look out Smith!

Quarterback Scott Tolzien was claimed by San Francisco and center/guard Colin Baxter was claimed by the New York Jets.

I liked Tolzien a lot, I was hoping that if we decided not to stay 3 deep in the QB slot we would put him on the practice squad.   I hate to say it, but it's a smart move by the Niners to grab him as they were super weak in QBs and needed someone who could run the West Coast Offense.  I would not be surprised to see him replace Smith by game four when the Niners are 0-3.

49ers choose Smith as their starter.

Coach Jim Harbaugh formally made the announcement that has been anticipated by 49ers fans.  Harbaugh claims that Smith played "calm, cool and collected."  He must have not been watching the same game.  I saw him get rushed and only make 8 completions, but I'm not managing a losing franchise and oh, expect him to be able to handle West Coast offense...

Did I mention he did not throw a touchdown during any of the four preseason games... just sayin.

Smith, is a 2005 No. 1 overall draft pick out of Utah and took the majority of reps with the first-team offense during training camp.  Now, he will be the guy going into the team's Sept. 11 opener against the defending NFC West champion Seattle Seahawks at Candlestick Park. Smith returned to the Niners for 2011 on a $5 million, one-year deal after a positive meeting with Harbaugh -- an ex-NFL quarterback himself -- during the spring.

Snoozefest... but a few reasons to wake up.

Matthews and Gilchrist were stand outs, otherwise, another boring preseason game.  No one got hurt and now we can prep for a Viking pillaging.  Of course, we will be doing the pillaging.

I was perusing NFL.com during the extra boring parts.  Philip Rivers and The Chargers are expected to do great things this season by the entire football community.  Usually, its just us die hard fans, but not this year.  Rivers is predicted to be the NFL MVP, by every analyst on the panel.  How you like them apples Tom Brady?!  ha ha

The axe will be sharp this week.  I'll update with cuts when I get them.

REGULAR SEASON here we come!
